Margon

Margon is a Cuban place near my office. On Tuesday's and Thursday's they have Oxtail and everyday they have Octopus salad. The place is long and skinny (very common in New York) and is typically packed during lunch hours. All of the food is behind glass and a team of highly skilled large-spoon wielding locals are ready to put your choice of meat on a bed of rice and beans, with a couple of fried plantains on the side for good measure.

We ordered the oxtail, octopus salad, pepper steak, and their steak and onions meal. The oxtail was good, with a great sauce, but had a bad meat to bone ratio. Octopus salad was okay and the pepper steak was decent. The steak and onions meal was the only thing that wasn't already prepared so we had to go to the back of the restaurant where a dood hangs out behind an open window cooking on a big grill. It took a while to get the steak but it was pretty darn good. A little thin (the pepper steak was thicker) but very tasty.

Lots more to try here.
